Cheltenham Town Football Club will be entering an academy shadow squad into the South West Junior Premier league (U11-U16) season 2012/2013. All players welcome who wish to play for Cheltenham Town FC. All games/training will take place at the clubs training ground and during the winter months at Tewkesbury school just of the M5. Cheltenham Town Football Club are setting up a shadow squad to develop talented players through a program of coaching and games. The shadow squad will be run similar to the academy, with training once a week and a game on the weekend between August – May. Players will be monitored as to their progress with 2 yearly player assessments one in the winter and one at the end of the season in May. Players who we feel have developed to the required standard of Cheltenham Town’s Academy will be pushed to train/play matches with the academy, which will be made easier as players will have the same training kit. If academy is in need of players for certain games, players from the shadow squad will be called up to play. Any player showing good potential in the shadow squad will be rewarded with game for the academy on weekly bases. Players at the centre will receive coaching from qualified F.A Coaches who work from a syllabus to ensure all topics and areas are covered to improve learning, and develop players. Whilst playing for the shadow squad players are still able to continue playing with their local club, as well as take part in our games program under the banner of Cheltenham Town F.C on Saturday mornings for U11-U16. The shadow squad operates as a non
profit making centre and is funded solely by players at the centre. The current
cost works out to £30.00 per month for U11-U16 teams and £15 per month at
U7-U10 age groups. This will be paid quarterly over a 10 month period. The
costs cover staff, insurance, equipment, venue hire, administration,
physiotherapy, contingencies, match fees, league registration, referee fees and
assessments. All players signed to the academy/shadow squad will be able to
watch first team home games free of charge as well both centres coming together
for Christmas parties and end of season does.
